I currently have an intake and exaust of about 105cfm, which doesnt seem to be enough. Currently i have a 150w(2x75w) secret jardin Tneon light. Normally neon doesnt run so hot, except its ballast is built on to the top of the hood, so its what creates most of the warmth in the tent. It gets up to almost 90*F in there with those shitty fans going.I cant afford a new LED and a new ventilation system, while i could afford a HID system and a new ventilation system, but then the electricity bill would go way up later.

Edit: It seems the Area 51 site has been updated and are now taking pre orders for their XGS 190, which is all Cree XTE Warm White 3750k XTEAWT-02-0000-00000BFF6 (x72). I took a look at the color spectrum of that (http://a51led.com/pics/XGS_3700K_190w.png), and it looks good. They will be shipping those out starting 14 December. I know no one has used one of these yet, but is this light also intended with flowering? I would like your opinions because you guys seem to be the most experiences with LED grows and these lights. What would you say I should buy? Hans panels? SGS160? wait on the XGS190?All answers are appreciated greatly =)

The new Area 51 XGS-190 is too much for your little 2' x 2' tent. I'd get the 2013 model while it's still available. Don't worry about heat. It'll be a lot worse if you but an HID you know.

Edit: If your tent is about 2' x 2' x 4' (approximately), that's only 16 cubic feet, right? If your fan is blowing at 105 cfm, then that (theoretically) replaces the air in your tent more than 5 times/minute. Twice a minute is enough if I remember right. The Area 51 only raises the temp a couple of degrees. So don't worry, bro!

2 Hans panels will give you better coverage throughout your space obviously and will run cooler (lower wattage 130w total vs area 51 190w total) and has remote drivers which can be installed outside your grow area. Uses top bin deep red 660nm osram oslons and cree xbd(white/red/blue), should do better than any 65w panel on the market or his previous versions.

Area 51 xgs 190w uses top bin cree xt-e which are very nice leds and will perform better than the sgs160 because of the higher wattage/efficiency and it contains just as much 630nm as the 160.
https://www.rollitup.org/led-other-lighting/656542-flowering-cree-bulbs.html cree xt-e ww/nw household bulbs....the results speak for themselves.

IDK............tough call/your $$.......both setups will do excellently in that space........and area 51 warranty is much better than Hans.

They lie about their leds........how is that for feedback;-)

just wanna know black dog led, all is OK, why you said they lie about their leds,
https://www.rollitup.org/led-other-lighting/486179-led-companies-w-links-57.html <<< read it, Perro Negro is a black dog representative and NEVER answered what leds they really use when called out.............so make your own conclusions.

PSUAGRO's right that the XGS-190 is better than the SGS-160, but I'm worried that the stronger 190 could be too bright and bleach your plants. If you want to check it out, Jeff at Area 51 is really helpful. I'd ask him if it's ok to use the 190 in a 2 x 2 tent. A 51's web site says that the ideal footprint for the 190 is about 3 x 3 with a minimum footprint of 2 x 3. For the 160, the minimum footprint is 2 x 2 like your tent.

New xte version no doubt...more more more...more is better

I'd get a 3 x 2 tent before I'd buy the older model
You win the prize for best idea, dude! Ditch the little tent and get a bigger one!!! Then order the 190!

Edit: SHIT! Now I wish I'd ordered the 190! I'm going to follow your journal, GroenJoe, to see how it goes. Hope it all works out super for you!

Hey GroenJoe, I found some info on Area51's web site that might be useful to you:

If your grow space is limited, you could always run the lamp seed to harvest on 130w mode. 14" to 18" above the plant tops is more than enough intensity and coverage for flowering plants in a full 24"x36" grow tent. You could use this lamp in as small as a 24"x24" grow area with as little as 48" of height, based on 14" from the canopy and 18" tall plants and 12" tall growing container.

So if you can't replace your 2' x 2' tent right now, you can still use the 190 in it if you just run it in 130w mode all the way through.

==================

Then maybe later if you get a bigger tent, you'll be able to run it in 190w mode during flower, as long as you follow these guidelines from Area51:

We recommend 30" above seedlings in 130w mode,
20"-30" above vegging plants in 130w mode,
and then 20"-24" above flowering plants in 190w mode.

They say the height above canopy is important because of the way the beams are focused. More instructions <here>.

I'm kicking myself for not noticing this before! I could have bought the 190 for my own cabinet! :wall:

(Edit: I guess I ordered it before they posted this info... :-( )

has anyone come across solid info backing the fact that adding white diodes to a mix and say maybe even letting up on red diodes (there is alot of red in white) can have positive effects on yield? i have seen people talking about it but not backing it with much solid proof.

You're right, there wasnt much information on the new light before the big site update.
Since im such a noob at all this light stuff, i must then ask: is this xgs and its new white leds and its spectrum that comes with it definitely better than that of the Sgs? Would you think the sgs on its full setting would be worse than the xgs on its 130w setting?
I understand its a new light with new updated features, but are we so sure that running on its lower function it is better than the older one on full power?

Also, im going to email jeff now and see what he says.

Would 2 of the Area 51 XGS 190w be good for a 4x4 tent? I'm planning on having a 4x4 mother/clone/veg tent, vegging maybe 2 weeks from clones taking root before flowering for SOG. Then, 4x4 flowering tent, harvesting every 2 weeks.

So I'm thinking maybe 2 Area 51's in the flowering tent and 1 in the veg tent. Would this work?

Yeah, Jeff's the man. That's a good question for him. Anyway, the 190 is a good investment in case you can get a bigger tent someday.

Thoughts on this LED? I would buy 2 to cover a 8x4 tent. They seem to be my best option as I NEED them to be on Amazon, as well as shipped and sold by Amazon. Reason for this is because I want to spend my amazon gift card balance for once, and I don't trust 3rd party sellers on amazon. Amazon just doesn't have the kind of sellers ebay does.

Also how much watts would it be per hour to run?

Curious to know this as well. Can anybody confirm the best configuration of these a51 lights for a 4x4 footprint, considering that details provided on the website do not mention information on the 4x4 umol values with 1 or 2 lights in that given area, which I find odd because don't a lot of hydro guys use 4x4 over 3x3?
