Curious to know this as well. Can anybody confirm the best configuration of these a51 lights for a 4x4 footprint, considering that details provided on the website do not mention information on the 4x4 umol values with 1 or 2 lights in that given area, which I find odd because don't a lot of hydro guys use 4x4 over 3x3?
You should direct any detailed questions like this about Area 51 lighting to the company's web site. The XGS-190 isn't even shipping yet. The product description has a lot of details about recommended coverage and height above canopy, etc. And the company owner is great about answering questions if you don't find it there. I always get a response by the next day.

i have a deep/shallow water culture flowering system. its in a micro cab converted dresser. it has a 1.5 square foot screen of green that needs to be lit. i use a 150w HPS cootube made from a hurricane glass with fans at each end.i flower 2 plants at a time.from the top of the screen to the light i have about 9 inches max between them, the plants touch the lights but dont burn , i do notice some yellowing only around the center portion of the screen where the bulb is. i imagine the heat is causing it at such close distance to the leaves. obviously there is a buzz about L.E.D.'s and ive looked at them but $500 is a bit out of my range...can anyone recommend me something for my setup? i can post pics if you need a better picture

I bought the 300W LED from these guys. It's a bargain, great light for the money and essentially the same light as advancedledlights. Eshine is one of the largest LED manufacturers in China and design their own stuff. Their latest is the Grow Sun programmable series with remote control and 20W LED diodes:

It's NOT the same light as Advanced. I own both. They do work, but not the same build quality or spectrum.

those look good but my space for a light is only 33 inches across and 26 inches deep. i need something smaller i like the $219 one but its a little bit too big

Hey up all... I'm usually lurking over in the Stealth/Micro grow & CFL forums... But I'm getting curious about the LED setups. I'm wondering if I could do myself a big favour by switching over. So, this thread looks like the place to ask a few basic questions.

Currently running a small PC grow, in a 16x16x7" PC case. I've got three 23w CFLs placed horizontally above my girl. The last grow I pulled just under an ounce, and this grow I'm aiming for two.

The last grow was a bit of a mess, and the buds were kinda airy, which I guess is to be expected on so few lights. I'm just wondering if I have any decent options, in the LED world, for a grow this size which would fit into my budget - no more than around £30 - £40.. $50 - $65ish.

Cheers all.

I've been considering Hans panels, thanks for the info. I was about to stop considering them just because I had heard about one person with a quality issue.

I have been reading a bunch on led lights and would like to get the benefit of full spectrum for my grow. I have a 400w hps for flower and am using cfl for a seperate veg grow area. I am looking for a panel under 300$ to use as the main light source for vegging or supplemental light to the 400w hps. Mygrow area is 2x3x7 and I will always have between 2 and 4 plants flowering. As for the veg area I will always have a minimum of 4 and a max of 10 plants between seedlings clones and I'm hoping to keep a mother plant of this cotton candy strain I have. Anyways I keep coming back to advanced led lights. The least exspensive 100w unit is almost 300 $ but they appear to have the best panels out right now. Maybe not the best panel for the money though. I realize I could get a new whole digi ballast light and fixture and run a MH and have enough light for what I want to accomplish but I am concerned about heat come summertime. So leds seem like a decent investment. Advanced leds seem nice since they can be piggybacked off eachother so I could just keep adding panels until I reach my desired coverage. So how many would I need? Are there any other better options for 300 $?

So much info. I need to cover a 4 by 4 area. What to get? Some say buy directly from China, some say by in USA only. What lights to buy? Are there any Chinese ones that are as good for less money.

What kind of budget are you working with?
I wouldn't recommend the direct from China route for purchasing your LED lights.
Although cheaper, those lights are often made from low quality parts, which often leads to a short life span for that LED grow light.
I would recommend looking into Area 51's LED grow light, which are some of the best you can buy.
They have great customer service, good prices, and very effective lights.

I've had a good experience with iPower's MH/HPS.. and their customer support was really good (usa based company).
..but I've never even heard of them doing LEDs.

maybe they are similar to chinese ebay leds... but with actual support =)

I will call them with questions. when I ask them how many to replace a 600w hps in 4 x 4 , they will be straight up or want me to buy more than what I need? emailed "Hans" ; response was " anywhere from 3 to six Hans panels for that space" I didn't know if that meant three is enough and six is super or what.
How many A51 panels will it take to make SURE my girls still get alot of light loving. Thnks Again.

I thought about this, and to be honest, unless I am recalling it wrong,
at a optimal footprint of 2'X3', then it would take 4 to cover 4'X4'.

This would involve over-lap and would be over-kill, but that is the math.

I am thinking that the best answer would be two A51s.

...but I am not an authority.

Good luck,

JD
