Dr Phill Had to intervene when a lady was giving a child hot-sauce as a punishment for telling lies

If the religion causes physical damage , and or involves "self esteem attacks" then it is indeed abuse and even the word "torture" can be used

My mom did that same thing to me as a kid. She was one of those Dr. Laura nutcases.
 
My mum did the same thing with soap, bar of soap in the mouth was common then
but not for telling lies for swearing lol

i was thinking, if those religions folks are telling children, "they are bad, they are wicked" etc, these are indeed self esteem attacks, (emotional torture) and perhaps Dr Phill should be notified.

Depends on what it is. I'm positive there's some really messed up indoctrination rituals out there that could easily be considered abuse due to.. well.. physical abuse.

But if you're talking about something like the typical christian ritual, then I'd say no. The parent is only forcing their beliefs on the child as the child doesn't even know what's going on nor has the kid read the entire bible and agreed. But it's not abuse, just stupidity. The kid won't be hurt from a splash of water, which is what I think they do for really young kids.
 
I don't think it categorizes as abuse. I was raised chatholic and don't believe in any of it or any religion as far as that goes, they "chathlics" sp? whatever, call it baptism. I call it recruiting,like a infant has a choice. I have 3 daughter's youngest 12, and have never explained any of it to them nor do I have them go to church. I feel that whole thing is a personal choice and they will explore it when they are older if they choose to. I have gotten an ear full from "other's" that these kid's should be going to church,my repy is ,when you are on your way stop and ask if they want to go,i'm not stopping them from it. I just can't subscribe to it since I don't believe any of it myself. Also my kid's were raised with moral's and to have respect and to have work ethic. Church for me is going to see SLAYER! went to mass sunday night! LOL!
 
Why not teach our children "the truth" rather than our own? That we are all responsible for either creating our own truth, or borrowing from someone else.

That there is not one big cosmic meaning for all, there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, like an individual novel... a book for each person.

Don't try to write their story, allow them to write it themselves. That way they are not you, that way they have their own individual story, that way you get to know who THEY are, not who YOU are.
 
All religion is dangerous because it teaches scape goating and is not based on science or reality. It also teaches hate and bigotry. Ever actually read the bible? Most have not. It is used to control populations. Just look at the middle east.
