Hey everyone, hope everyone is well. I just placed 2 autoflower seeds in root riot cubes. I had them soaking in a shot glass for 12 hours. I have them in a clear plastic container for humidity. I was wanting to know what would be the correct temp for the seeds to germinate? I have them on my cable box for heat but I dont want them getting to hot.

I would not set them on a cable box for heat, you are heating the roots which is bad and not the plant which is good.

70-75F is fine for a seedling even up to 80F I believe is the max I would personally let my seeds grow in.

Also wouldn't worry about a humidity dome, those are usually only good for clones and do more harm for seedlings from what I'm aware of they can make the stem soggy and your plant head will fall off and say bye bye to that seed.

Just set it near a window your in cali it should be fine

So I should just place them in a window for heat or should I just place them in the dark for a few days.

w/e floats your boat window should be fine though

I have left seeds in the dark in a wet paper towel till the seeds pop open then set them in soil and leave them under poop 10-25W CFL and wait till first set of leaves then put them under HID but put the HID as far up as you can or on lowest setting if digital

I used to germ my seeds about 70-75, but a buddy told me he does his warmer, so I tried going as high as 85-87, and they seem to sprout quicker, then as soon as they straighten up, I bring the temp back down to 80 for the first couple weeks.

ok so do I need to place them on a heating pad with a humidity dome or just place in my grow box? I have 1 autoflower going now, she is 2 weeks old and the temp stays around 75 in my grow box.

I grow in a small 2x2x4 area, so I just use my lights to regulate my temp.
If I were you, I'd rather go by ambient room temp instead of trying to warm the pots.

Nah, don't bother.
Light won't hurt, although they don't need it until there are leafs to utilize it.
Although, I forgot to mention, some people like to cover their cups with saran wrap to help hold moisture in until the seeds germ.

(I don't bother, too lazy, LOL)

Germinating seeds is as easy as growing gets. Put it anywhere that is warm, it does not matter, airing cupboard, ontop of a computer, ontop of your cable box. If it is warm they will do just fine. I would always just throw the seeds straight in soil with an hps over it.

Germinating seeds is not difficult, there should not even be a question of what temperature, so long as it's warm, you're almost always good.

I agree 85-90 is prime for germination. Then the low 80s for the next few weeks. But like Tip Top mentioned dont make too much of it. Just keep em warm....

get something to go around your clear container to block out light from the roots.
DON'T t-plant and disturb the seeds, but just keep light from the roots.

A 26W CFL an inch above the soil will provide perfect warmth, assuming the ambient air temp is not frigid. Otherwise around 80 for ambient air temp will work well, which is warmer than most indoor environments.
