I've noticed that nearly every thread in the politics section goes bad because everyone thinks that they are a genius and everyone else is wrong.
Hint. you starting every post with "you're stupid", as seems to be the case half of the time, does not in any way keep threads on an even keel.
Maybe we wouldn't need a junk section if people didn't go aroun calling other people stupid and lighting fires....

Now go look up the word voluntary you buffoon. Serfs were not chattel by definition. Therefore the life of servitude intrinsic to serfdom was consensual. Just like wage slaves. Sure a goad exists to coerce consent but THEY WERE NOT CHATTEL.

he was a part of the land he was bound to work from birth to death, and if his lord decided to get into the wool business, the serf was a sheepherder. if the lord decided wheat was a better idea, the serf grew wheat. if turnips were the new hotness, well the serf grew turnips.
why dont you read the britannica article on serfdom and discover to your shock that serfdom was a modified form of slavery, in which the serf had to feed clothe and house himself, while also pulling 12/to 3/4 of the year in service to his master without pay, without choice and without any input on what labours he performed.
