Always good to have an extra pair of spring loaded fiskars around. Perlite if he's soil. maybe a fabirc container for their root pruning abilities, they're fairly cheap too. A hydrometer. Some ona blocks. That microscope neo suggested is a good one too.
fiskars! perlite! .. ok now i'm on a roll! the ideas are flowing in! in my budget too thanks maaan!

Some fishing gear if he likes fishing , can never have enough tackle !!!
Gps , maps , books about things he likes , clothing (fishing or camping/hiking gear)
A knife set , Get some of his fav old photos and put them in a frame , a new chainsaw

seeds,bulbs, some new glass maybe?, filters, pots, soil, nutes.. theres always something he doesnt have but wishes he did

That's the real reason I have one in the car instead of the Asp. I gave a 4 cell once to a female friend for Xmas. I could tell she was too polite to say WTF, but years later she still had it, kids were always forbidden to touch it. She said it was one of the most practical presents she ever got. I'm looking to get a tactical light for the brightness.
