Diagnose please?

Hi there

This is my first grow

Light: Prosource 180w LED, 18 inches above plants
Nuts: Biogrow organic, only fed once, plants are 4 weeks old, dosed 1ml per liter of water
Temp: 24-27 C
Airflow: yes
Humidity: 35-40%
Strain: Serious Seeds : Chronic

Plants are about 3.5 weeks old, from first getting seed wet



Ok now to the problem. I have 3 plants planted in a row. Only center plant is having problems. Take a peek. Strange coloring on leaves, splotchy. Leaf edges turning away.
Have tried to be careful to water correctly, but this is my first grow and Im never really certain that Im doing it properly - too often or not often enough. Thus far, I can say on
average that Ive watered every 2-3 days, not heavy either.

Would REALLY appriciate some help. Seems like every day this plant gets a little bit worse, very strange because the other two plants are doing incredibly well.
I dont know if this is significant, but I can say that I dug down along the stem a little ways and the stem was quite twisted.

I don't know much about the concentrations on that feed, but your tips look burned. You might even be locking out other elements. What is your ph in and out?

Can you tell us a little more about your feeding schedule? Did you start it off diluted?

IMO looks like nute burn or u burnt ur plants from the lights. Ease off the Big grow for a While and 2-3 is usually 2 much to water for a plant. Its also like u mentioned what Beginners mess up on alot, Over/under watering.. When u water u can really go by 2 ways to tell if ur plant needs more h20.. 1st when u water it lift up the pot remember that its pretty heavy, when u want to water again pick up the pot if its still pretty heavy ur good if its light and u can pick it up with ease time to water. Also when u water wait a cpl days and stick ur finger in ur Medium if ur using soil like me check to see if the soil is moist down 2-3 inches if not its time to water. Hope that helps some

I don't feed until my plants are 4 to 6 inches tall at minimum. New growers especially use too much fert way to soon. I'd say it's one of the most common problems. Back off the fert and I bet it recovers.

You are getting a phosphorus deficency. This doesn't mean feed more phosphorus though! Your soil is probably acidic and locking it out.

Problems with Phosphorus being locked out by PH troubles:
Cold wet soils, acid or very alkaline soils, compacted soil.

Soil
Phosphorus gets locked out of soil growing at ph levels of 4.0-5.5
Phosphorus is absorbed best in soil at a ph level of 6.0-7.5 (wouldn’t recommend having a ph of over 7.0 in soil) Anything out of the ranges listed will contribute to a Phosphorus deficiency.

Well Ive only fed once. After about 2.5 weeks. I did 1 ml per liter of water, of the Biobizz grow. After that is actually when this problem has shown up, so it looks like you are right. Any reason why only one plant would have gotten nute burn? Maybe I didnt mix the water up well enough... Thanks for much for the help

I wondered about the light as well. My light has two on switches, one for each side of the light. Ive turned one side off and let it go at half power all day just to give the plant a bit of a rest. I have done the finger check, the soil was moist but not dry, Ive watered with that in mind. But perhaps could have let it go a day or two more.. Ill remember that, thanks

Yeah Ill leave the fert alone until this plant shows signs of recovery, could be that I added ferts too early! Sounds like the consensus here is that it looks to be nute burn. Thanks!

Ok Ill check the PH now tonight. I have to admit that I ignored the PH aspect until now. I had bought a ph meter and havent bothered to use it. Ill get that calibrated and check from tap and from runoff and let you know the numbers. Thanks a bunch, you and everyone. I dont want my little beauty to die!

You know, I think you are right. After a google search, and looking at some pictures, other plants with Phosphorus deficiencies look a lot like my problem plant. How it is possible that my other two are doing just fine though? Isnt that odd?

Had problems with my shitty PH meter that I got on ebay. So used a drop tester that I have for my aquarium. Its only accurate to 0.5, but its the best I have at the moment.

Out of tap my PH is 7.0
Runoff PH was: 5.0, lowest my drop tester could read! WTF. How do I correct this? Is 5.0 too low, is it locking out P uptake?

Ok I have a short term plan at least now. I live in a place that has very very little selection for buying things like ph up and lime and so on. So what I am going to do for now is eat a bunch of eggs, pulverize the shells in my mini blender with the coffee setting, and then add that. Will also make a water solution with eggs shells and apply that once the soil drys a bit more. Hot damn, hope I can save this plant... Im even considering a tad bit of baking powder, since egg shells supposedly take quite a while to break down enough to a point to change the soils ph.

Ok got 6 egg shells, cleaned them, pulverized them like crazy in a water solution, going to add that to the problem plant and a bit to the others for good measure. Will check the ph again tomorrow to see if its gotten any better. Only thing that sucks about checking the ph over and over is that I have to do a run off test, which means more watering - Now Im surely overwatering...

if ur trying to bring ur ph up with egg shells ur going about it the wrong way bro. try a dolomite lime drench @ 1tbs/gal water. its more effective than shells. new growth on problem plant looks good, leaving me cautiously optimistic.

Next time you want to check the runoff p.h. don't use your 7.0 tap water. Get a bottle of distilled at the grocery store. Pour some through and than test the runoff. Don't worry about what the p.h. is of the distilled is going in. It has zero alkalinity and whatever the p.h. is of the runoff is about the p.h. of your soil. Home Depot has Epsoma garden lime pellets (dolomite lime) for $5. Mix a tablespoon or 15 ml. worth (if you have the hydro store shot glass) into a gallon of distilled water. Shake and shake cause it's not easy to get it all to dissolve and feed. Keep in mind the dolomite is slow acting and hydrated lime would be a much better choice to get it up quicker (only lasts two weeks in the soil). Pay attention to calcium:magnesium ratio. Hydrated lime has no magnesium in it. Dolomite lime is 2:1. Cal mag plus is 3:1(considered to be the perfect ratio). I just went through the same thing and used 1tsp./gallon of hydrated lime and 1tbsp./gallon of dolomite lime and it worked perfectly after one feeding. After doing all this it may seem that the calcium in all of this stuff is super fast acting in comparison to the magnesium and therefore you want to have some epsom salt on hand. Order the extra fine online for only $6...

You claim you are not sure about over/under watering. Whatever you do don't use a soil probe and continually poke/stab into your roots. Those do work pretty good but are completely unnecessary. Go by weight. Pick it up and it should feel very light. If it feels like it's got a little weight to it/not that bad don't water it. What's better is...whoa it feels really light, it's time to water! If the soil got to dry you will know right away because the plant will wilt/leaves sag down really bad, however, it will perk right back up within an hour of watering. Most people over water.

Thanks bud. I would def try that, but I live in Norway, and there isnt shit here for options. You wouldnt believe the horrible selection here. I have to order everything in , and that takes ages. Thats why I was trying for a DIY option.
So you dont think the eggshells will help?

Ill look into ordering some lime. What do you know about sulfur? I have some of that for myself, Im a health nut. Doesnt sulfur bring up PH as well?

Ill see what I can find here. Living in Norway, selection is terrible. For example, have never even seen distilled water for sale here, have no idea where to find it, but will look. Its like a first world, but third world, country over here... Ill also look around for the lime. I know of a garden store about 45 minutes away, Ill see if I can get there on Saturday. One more thing, do you cut away bad growth, or let it degrade to a point it just falls off? I have a lot of bad leaves on there now, they are ugly - I sort of want to cut them away. But they are most likely somewhat productive still.. Thoughts?

Once they look really bad I take them off. Dead leaves are invitations for pests.

Have an update here,

Not exactly sure how things are going, but I think they are hopeful, your thoughts please?!

New growth looks fairly good, but a bit yellow on tips.

Ill tell you what I did, and I realize that Im noob and so on and so on, but I felt like I needed to take some chances.

I flushed the problem plant with a few gallons of water, then foliar sprayed Nitrozyme lightly, with... wait for it... some VERY VERY diluted evening (clear) urine

So here are pictures as of now, any more feedback? I simply cannot find any ph altering soil stuff here where I live, so I figured that I would flush the soil good
since the soil stats said it is 6.6 from bag. So good flush, foliar spray gently, and then fert soon when medium has dried enough. Thats my noobie plan, with the
tools I have

Also, could you take a look at my healthier looking plants, some of the larger fan leaves are drooping and cuping downwards. Could someone confirm whether or not this means that they need water or nutes?
