What ph tester.........

What ph testers do you guys use? And what is the deal with the ones that you have to calibrate? That seems like a major pita. My friend asked me which one to get and I told him I was not sure. But I told him there was a place where I could find out.

hanna's ph/ppm/temp, works like a champ. you can calibrate them to make sure they are still right on.

to calibrate it you need the solutions of ph/ppm, and you need the cleaning/storage solutions, yea it sucks that you really do need those and they are a bit pricey, but you only need to check it once a month or so and you use very little solution. to calibrate you push two buttons i think then it will tell you to dip it into the ph7 solution and when it reads that one it will ask for the other ph 4 solution its a two point calibration, and when it recognizes the second solution, calibration is complete, sounds complicated but it really isn't and it is well worth the m oney.

and i dont know how much that would cost but im gonna guess more then hes trying to spend which is 150$

the pen is about 100 in a hydro store so less online im assuming, and the solutions were about 15 a piece in the hydro store so about 150 would be right if he can find a deal online. and as far as calibrating it i would rather be able to than not.

I dont think you have to calibrate it

if you look at the third/fourth line of that add where it tells this

a 20ml sachet buffer solutions and what not, those are the calibrating solutions, and i dont think 20 ml is a whole lot of each. all the good ones need calibrating, but yea this one would do the trick. i just prefer hanna's pen[/FONT]

HANNA--PPM/PH/EC-MS-------Love the damn thing----easy to calb-----stays within .1 + or -. I had a BLUELAB ph truchian---the thing was a piece of shit(the things a stir stick now)----Their ppm truchian is good though.

I have this meter and the 'start' solutions are just that. Just enough to cal the meter for the first round. You really shouldn't 'double dip'

The meter has been just fine for me.

No. Its kinda useless. Never seemed to vary with me, even though my plants were getting nute burn.

Now the cheapo moisture meters like that I kinda like.

Iv just purchased ph & ppm pens & my questions are: (Sorry if these are silly questions)

Do I need to purchase both ph 4 & ph 7 buffer solutions?
Are these buffer solutions not reusable?
Do I need to purchase a similar buffer solution for my ppm pen?

As you can tell im the super noob.
