MH lights are for Vegetation, so you should be using it right from the beginning. Then swapping for CFL, HPS, or HID. What are you using now?

hid isn't a type of lighting like mh or hps, it is the sub-category they fall into, high intensity discharge lighting.

and you wouldn't swap from hid to cfl.

use your mh all the wy thru flower and as close as you can get it to the plant without harming it. (if your hand is comfortable, the plant will be too)....then go with hps if you can....as opposed to going to cfl i'd just stick to the mh the whole way thru just go to 12/12 when you're ready to flower. mh to cfl is a downgrade in light. if you don't have a hps stay with mh.....there are a couple guys who posted last week that have a beautiful grow using soley haldide.,......good luck

you should be using Mh and when you switch to flower12/12 use hps maybe use those cfl for seedlings, get that cfl outa there, yea u can use it but your buds will be fluffy and light compared to the big daddys.

If you got MH and HPS, you have no need for CFL's. MH is fine for seedlings, just dont put the light to close untill they get a little bigger.

He was asking about using a HID light above seedlings.

The answer is that you can use it, just keep it like two feet or more away depending on wattage.

HID light is very intense and can hurt little plants that are trying to establish a profound root system.

Use it with caution...

dont dismiss cfls guys cfls are great,,,,for side lights only though :) even powerfull HID lights do not penetrate to the bottom sets, when u got a nice bushy plant,,,cfls are great to hang on the sides where the light doesnt penetrate,,i somtimes have enough room to almost stick a cfl inside the plant without touching anything obviously,,,but yes HPS=dank budd, but cfls are great to place around for optimal coverage
cheers

question:
is there a good way to tell when clones have rooted besdies seeing the actual roots obviously,,i planted them in shallow organic soil about a week ago,,i wanna know when i can start exposing them to air slowly,,,is there a good indicator,,or should i just wait for the root to get down to the bottom but i wanted to expose it to air and direct light as soon as the roots started,,i dont wanna wait for it to travel a few inches,,unless it wont matter :)

You will notice the plant really start to pick up.. it may begin succesive new growth, much more than normal.

But since it doesnt have any food the growth may be negligable.

Really id wait for the roots
