Im not a pro but i started lst a couple of months ago. I keep mine tied back well into flower. You'll be able to tell when you can let them go cause the stems will stiffen up. Ill try and get some pics tomorrow. My plants are sleeping. I have some chemdog that i got in the veg room that i bearly tied back yesterday.Good luck.......

You won't get a truly even canopy with LST, but you will get lots of tops. I untie and adjust a few times throughout the grow.

I am three weeks into flower and just got done untieing, doing some pruning, and retieing as now works best. I am hoping this is the last adjustment.

Hope that helps.

Further notifies me of the intelligence you obtain is short lived. Id like to ask if you are the grower you say why be a jerk to those who ask for some help? Why come to a web site like this and pick up knowledge and be as selfish not to help out the green horns? All's well but I am really astounded by your lack of passion for growing as I AND plenty others think that this kind of a family in a sense. I adore your canopy its a shame that we couldn't come to see things the same. SCARELET

I've done LST a couple of times and I'm soon going to do it on my nursery. The way I do it is with pieces of coathanger pushed down into the soil to tie the branches down. I found it to be MUCH easier than to try to tie them off and tie them to the sides of the pot etc... I just cut up some hangers into like 6 inch pieces and then either bend them in half or just bend them into a hook at the top. Eventually they will start to push themselves out of the ground but by then they are already trained low to the pot.
You try to work your way around the pot into a circle and when you get it mostly filled in, you let her start growing up from there. It takes longer in vegging time, but the yield is going to be much better for ya.
As pictured here:

Yeah, i had one of these "im god" responses too on one of my threads. They think their shit dont stink and they try to bully the people with least posts. What a loser....... If you need help, ask. I'll be glad to lend a hand if i can. I dont claim to know it all but i can tell you one thing for sure, this dude doesnt know it all either. Loser.

Hey Bro don't let the pissing match get you down, I'll throw in my 2 cents worth. Not sure what you have for pots but if they are plastic just drill holes about every 2" and get you a spool of this: http://www.amazon.com/Gardners-Blue-Ribbon-Sturdy-Cutter/dp/B00004R9XD/ref=sr_1_4?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1387061861&sr=1-4&keywords=tie

Super easy. Easy to adjust and tweak as plant develops. Tying down is as easy as it looks, these aren't pussy plants and it does not shock them at all.

Your other question...... after a couple weeks they will take and accept the form you have them tied down to. They will harden off and if you take of the restraints they might bounce up a little bit but not much.

Check out my grows in sig, I tie them down hard, not sure what your goals are.

I played with holes in the top rim of a plastic pot idea,

I drilled holes and jammed golf tees in to lock down.
Pull pin and pull down on string again reinsert golf tee....

I cracked the plastic after a while, but with the right plastic it could last!

I use binder clips and pipe cleaners. Has been working great.

I have the drilled holes. Simple drill bit works. I tie down with a spool of twist tie stuff, just have to careful when putting around the stem.

One thing if relevant for how you do it, make sure nothing too tight around the stem. As the stem thickens, you don't want it growing around the tie down.

No it just one of those things where there are many lst threads and all this info is on here. And simply drill holes in pots lip and tie strings....people need to.realise there is not a correct way to do things everybody does it dif.

Beauty of LST is that it's easy and forgiving, hard to screw it up, these plants are hardy, pliable, difficult to break really.
Think of it as opening up the centre and spreading out the branches to capture as much light as possible hitting the plant.

I try to picture the plant as it's going to look like as it grows and fill the space I allotted for each plant. It takes some adjustments as it grows but it's not high maintenance.

If you're growing in buckets it's already been mentioned here, just drill some holes along the rim and you're good to go. I just finished building a phase 1 LST/Scrog fixture. Built this to be able to easily LST with geopots, growing in them next round. Rather than hack up the geopot will use this to tie around the pot. Adding some hooks to the outside/top rungs to make it easier to tie. The next phase fits two of these together with the top T's and builds a removable/plug-in scrog net on top of this fixture. Start slow and "grow" from there - lol
