Climate controlled greenhouse

I intend to grow in a climate controlled greenhouse, high intensity lighting, leaning towards hydro, haven't ruled out soil.

My buddy thinks this won't fly in western WA state climate. He thinks the energy required to maintain the climate will be greater than the energy savings that result from being able to modulate the lighting according to how sunny it is. I'm sure there must be operations like I describe in climates like this. Anyone know of any?

Let's see. West WA = hot and dry, but for a very short time, right? Then mostly cold and dry, or cold and wet?

Define climate control? If you intend to run window ACs at 120v, yes. But, if you use an evaporation wall panel set, maybe no.

Total overhead space is the most meaningful, I think. If you can design a high peak with fans in the ends, you can let the heat rise and blow it out.

Also, consider the cost of heating, electric is costly. Gas, not so much.

And if it is a greenhouse you need to consider the Sun path and season angle. Also, can you grow enough to get good economy of scale?

Also, what will the market be like in a few years? Who can say?

I think, if you look around you will find commercial greenhouse operations nearby. If not, that would give me some pause. Why not?

when in doubt insulate it and make it indoor
