What do you think is the best hood?

Do you think a cool tube is the best fixture?

being that it's more streamlined with less heated surface area
and a reflector is better than a ducted hood?

I have Hood Envy, lol --- my hood is pretty small!

What hood do you think is best for a 2'x3' foot print with a 600 watt HPS?

if I used a cool tube and a 6" inline fan could I get the 600 in the 3x3x6 tent??

Or do I have to run an 8" inline fan to suck the air thru the hood with a 600 watt light?

I will use a similar overhead setup, I tried my 600 and found that It overwhelmed my 3x3x6 tent.
It created temps at 84 - 86 degrees, way over my comfort zone.

My 400 watt HPS keeps my 3x3x6 foot tent 79-80 degrees.

is a hood with a vertical light bulb better?

is it worth the trade off in loss of height?
( it's got to be taller than a bulb)

What ducted light fixture do you use and what wattage of light??

all advice welcome

Thank You and Happy Holidays!

Take a look at a sun systems luxor if you have the headroom.
But then headroom really isn't a problem IF you control the canopy , screen it or something.
I was looking at the vertical OG hoods but ended up liking the luxor.
Haven't run it long enough to say but it appears to be a nice hood.
I'm actually thinking of modding a tent to fit one. Most of the hood would be outside the top of the tent.

now that I look at your picture a luxor is def out but you can find many alternatives to the one you're running now. Cheap too depending on where you are. Used stuff out here is a dime a dozen.

Used equipment from Craig's List is sketchy at best.

Id rather buy new.

I am a noob, so I built my flower area around the tent dimensions.

now I realize I want to design around my existing 600 watt bulb/ ballast.

I am looking at getting a second tent, something 84" tall seems to be the tallest available.

the footprint of the tent would be based on the hood shape.

I have 9 foot ceilings so I cheated myself on my first tent, I went small and now I regret it.

Since I have the expensive part, I want to get the optimum hood design.

Then based on that I will choose tent shape, either 4x4x7 or a 2x4x7.

then I will get an appropriate inline fan, I figure a Good Hood will have either 6 or 8 inch duct access.

I would like a hood with flanges for 8" duct if possible.

I prefer the 2x4x7 shape tent so I am looking for a rectangular hood or cool tube with wings I guess.

Opinions??

It seems tons of people use cool tubes so they must be good, is the external reflector model the best one?

remember I'm lighting for a 2x4 foot print, the plan will be a two plant side by side SCROG Ebb N Flow.

I use Fox Farms, it works OK but I have nothing to compare it to since I'm only on my 2nd plant.

Are there better three part systems or nutrient brands that are better than FF??

would you then raise and lower the plants and leave the light at a fixed height?
Sounds like a Cool Idea.

I live near the coast, lots of canvas shops around here. I can have a whole cut and sewed professionally and hang the light in a box on top of the tent, just have to hook a fan to one side of the box.
Very Interesting idea I am not sure the tent mod would go as planned.

explain its a dark room and I am mounting an overhead exhaust system for health purposes.

yeah that was kinda my plan. I had thought about it for a moment on some way to lower and raise the hood but then decided it would be easier to maintain a low even canopy. The tent I'm considering would have a 4 by 4 flood table mounted on a 22 inch high stand also , below the table of course a res.The table will be a low pressure aeroponics system.
But back to the original, a mod would consist of nothing more than cutting a hole and framing where the hood would set. no adjustment may not make it totally useless of course. As you stated , raising the height of the plant isn't a real task depending on the system of course.

I plumb my resevoir thru a tent hole so it outside and it stays much cooler.
My res temp is 73-74, my tent is 79-80

I'm liking the hydrofarm radiant series I currently have an older one w/o air cooling, I have a 6" and then 2 of the new 8" with hinged glass. Hate to say it but their new chinese stuff is nice. Can be had for about 1 bill mail order.
