I'm troubled by mean people on this forum

I have received a tremendous amount of information and help from members on the RUI forum. I honestly, really appreciate it, and whenever I do have a positive insight, I share it.

What I don't understand is why some members feel the need to be so fucking rude. Critical input, advice, pointing out what a person is doing wrong, all good. But implying that someone is an idiot for asking a question diminishes the reputation and effectiveness of the entire RUI forum.

I know that there are bad seeds who post crazy shit, just ignore it. Chances are, they want you're reaction and are phishing.

When someone seems a total newbie and has basic questions, I think we should help them out, not, as some people on this site do, call them stupid and insult them.

I've learned that the smart people on RUI, with useful knowledge and input, are polite and have a sense of humor. The assholes, even if they are genius growers, rarely contribute anything but spew.

Lighten up folks. I think we all want to learn, and to increase the knowledge and success of our members. Why not?

someone posted a picture of about 8 wildly stretched seedlings in a pot with a cactus. Some questions are deserved of ridicule. Sometimes the seriously stupid questions annoy me because I researched marijuana and its specific needs for about three months before I even ordered a seed.

Sometimes after being on here for awhile you get troubled by stupid people on the forum.

I advocate to grow something other than cannabis the first time if someone has no growing experience. Something like basil that won't have as much emotional attachment so as to get a basic understanding of hands on gardening.

Most of the questions asked here are unnecessary. With a little reading ..... the answer can be found. That or Googled. Most people are too lazy to do any research of any kind. They just start posting questions and wait for others to give them answers. The same shit over and over. have been on here about three and a half years with about 2500 posts. I bet that I haven't asked more than 5 questions. I ask BING everything. I look for my own answers.

I agree Zobud. I've seen some mean comments too and I've always been a "no question is a stupid question" type of person. That cactus post was the meanest I've seen. There are ways to make a joke without being so rude and upsetting. Sure there are places online to get info, so instead of telling someone to fuck off and do their own research, a simple "you will find the answer you are looking for by typing your question into google, if you still have questions then, they will be more specific and therefore easier for us to answer" should suffice.
We are a community here and a community should be polite to encourage more participation. But hey, that's just my 2 cents. :)

Just don't go to politics.....I have never posted a help thread because I always searched the question first...even google leads to riu a lot of the time, which is why I ended up joining on account of grow journals with induction lighting....I could have posted a "which alternative light" thread but it was all already here........

Thats why theres a friend option. Find someone whose answers you trust and friend them. Then pm them and aske em questions. One on one convorsations rarely go badly. Try it.

I agree with you. I've only been a member on this site for just a few days, and I've already been told that I don't have a clue to what I'm talking about. The person that said this to me, I went into this persons profile and found that there has been post after post after post of cruelness, and name calling mostly towards new members. What I can't understand is, A person starts a questioning thread looking for some advice. The other members are not being forced to give feedback, but they feel compelled to do it anyways with rude comments or referring them to go look it up somewhere else. Why post anything at all is what I'm asking, If you don't like the question that has been asked dozens of other times then just leave and move on to the next. What I would wish would also be on this site is a place where in your profile you could store a list of names that act assholes. That way if people go into your profile, they'll know who you think are assholes. It would have to have a asshole rating for each person too on a scale of 1-10.

Interesting...

I am troubled by people who copy/paste the exact same posts in multiple forums...

Is that called attention seeking?

Please explain how you think this is being mean? This thread is about people who rude and mean to other members, just for asking a question. If someone wants to copy and paste, so what. What difference could this possibly make? What it sounds like to me, It bothers you when people do it. Maybe you should start a thread on how copying and pasting bothers you.

Prince Albert,
Judging by your response to Aithor's post...you're a bit of a dim bulb. This is the internet, anarchy and chaos rule. There are over half million members here and it isn't something that can be regulated or controlled easily. Why don't you go somewhere safe where the boogey man can't get you...

I do realize this is the internet, and you're probably right that chaos and anarchy does rule in some small, deranged morbid way. But a dim bulb, was that necessary? Go somewhere safe, boogey man, was that necessary? This is what Althors post is referring to, stupid unnecessary comments. You just made his and my point with your post. If you can't play nice with others, maybe you should go somewhere anarchy and chaos is encouraged.

This site does encourage that, go to politics. Hang out in TNT for awhile. The grow section is supposed to be a bit friendlier but that's not always the case. Especially when people ask a question directly answered under the sticky that answers it. There are stickies for a reason, but people want to be spoon fed. It's indicative of a larger social problem where too many people suffer from workitis and don't want to earn anything on their own from time spent. There is also a report button for a reason.

newbie central is like romper room. if you want serious replies go to another section like advanced or organics. once you leave NS the atmosphere changes.

Prince Albert,
Your thread was crying out for someone to be mean to you. I just stepped up to the plate. If I were you...I would look at your own personality and your posts to see why people respond to you in a certain way.

You asked why people are mean...and Aithor answered about things that frustrated him and might cause a hostile response. But you didn't even understand his post and answered critically telling him to start his own thread. Hence the dim bulb comment.

When I confronted you, you told me to go elsewhere. Anarchy and chaos are encouraged here...which is why I'm here. And I don't normally respond negatively to posts...but your idiocy brought it out in me.
JD

PS I hear over at the Sesame Street forum, people are nice all of the time.

Being ignorant of Cannabis is bliss, why study or read when all one has to do is join a forum, many to help you here
