In regards to trimming fan leaves, there are few things to say:
1. In the first part of flowering fan leaves produce over 60% of the photosynthesis-produced glucose necessary for the adjacent stem and it's buds, so cutting it may not be a good idea...
2. The older the plant gets, the more it relies on the bud leaves for bud production, so after some 6-7 weeks on flowering, I'd say that the role of fan leaves turns from photosynthesis-glucose provider to basic nutrient provider (N, K, P, minerals), while the role of glucose production is almost completely taken over by the bud leaves...
So, depending on the age of your plant and on how much light the fan leaves are stealing from the bud leaves, you should consider cutting off the fan leaves...
