One of my plants had to be topped at the second node due to abnormal growth, the top produced 3 fan leaves instead of new node growth. It took that plant two weeks to recover I dubbed it "Not gunna make er" and it currently 6 weeks later is the largest and strongest plant I have.

From what I've read you want to wait until the stress of transplanting has passed before topping, doing both can really stunt your growth
