    Heatsinks for DIY LED lamps

Directly from a chinese factory. Negociated over alibaba (a real pain). 10pc was absolute min; they are looking for 100-1000moq.

    Heatsinks for DIY LED lamps

Ok, the lamps arrived today. And they look gorgeous! Larger than expected (see pics), but also much sturdier. 50W passive is no problem, it feels barely warm. I checked the chip, and it's genuine cree cxb3070 - no surprise here. Only drawback is the driver: looks and feels cheep. I hope it will...

Acutally, they sent me a picture! I agree about HLG-185H-C, but I'd rather take many small drivers than one large. For the rest, nearly all electronics we are using is made in china, wether it's apple or a cheap led driver. You have to know what you do before ordering, and ask for the right...

    Heatsinks for DIY LED lamps

Update: I got the following deal: 40$ for a tracking light with cxb3070 (3590 would not fit). Passive lamp, 50W and PFC active driver. Shipment is around 150$ for 10pcs including tracks. The lamps leave tomorrow and will take a week to arrive. I calculated another 60$ import taxes. More on this...

    Heatsinks for DIY LED lamps

Nah. At least not in Europe. Certification process is a pain and you can sell anything without at least CE and RoHs. For private stuff it's great. But not really commercially interesting. Plus: let's face it: floodlight bodies ARE ugly...

I'm currently finalizing a deal with a chinese company for a similar setup. Though I'm going for track lights: similar price, and the heatsinks are optimized for indoor cooling. More on this when the lamps arrive.

COB Manufacturers other than CREE or BRIDGELUX

Update 1: until now, I got only one serious offer. 45$ for citizen clu046 and over $60 for CLU056. Out of 10 inquiries, about half of the self called "led specialists" asked me what a reference number is good for, and if I would not rather send them a picture of the chip... Did not ask kingbrite...

COB Manufacturers other than CREE or BRIDGELUX

These a just briliant times. I m surfing throuh nichia and ss databases. Around 15w hey have pretty nice chips. I wonder if a hybrid low power cob strip of 20 chips would be worth it. After all, spread cooling is much more efficient, especially on long alu profiles.

COB Manufacturers other than CREE or BRIDGELUX

Common misconception. I might be true in the EU (though belgium beats france with taxes), but worldwide, there are worse countries, when it comes to taxation. Most developping countries are very difficult; I remember a swede drilling wells in central africa explaining me how glad he would be to...

Aluminium and Copper are soft metals; you can work them with anything. HSS bi-metal drills will give better results though - as they are harder, you can drive them slower. Hole diameter depends. 2.5mm for M3 is not bad. You can also use 2.8 and tap with a simple screw. I used to tap my pc...

    ...All Things Vero...

Yeah, be carefull. A stand helps a lot. If you break the tap, there is no need to throw everything away. Just slowly drill through the broken part until you get everything out, and maybe use a larger screw (m4) afterwards. Also remember: metal work is VERY low rpm. More torque, less speed = good...

COB Manufacturers other than CREE or BRIDGELUX

Actually, every EU country has different import rules, mostly due to variable administrative costs. It's really worth it to contact local customs, and ask for pointers.

COB Manufacturers other than CREE or BRIDGELUX

I happen to know a bit about customs in Western Europe. Up to 150€, they usually don t ask for VAT in France, although theoretically VAT is owed for any sum. Since most Chinese retailers undervalue their goods during shipment, small internet shipments are rarely controlled. In Germany there is a...

Also, local metal worker shops are gold mine. They have plenty of junk, some of which makes nice coolers.
