A 250w MH bulb is currently in this 400w ablite lo-bay with inbuilt ballast is working fine but would this be the same for 250w HPS bulbs too?

I'm interested in the answer to this too, as I'm thinking of putting a 250w HPS bulb in my 400w ablite lo-bay.

I've opted for 20/4 because it gives the plants more daylight for their veg period as I'm only planning on vegging them for a month tops before putting them on 12/12 for flowering... due to time constraints. I'm thinking the actual length of daytime doesn't matter as long as the change to 12/12...

Anyone with any experience with using peat potting soil as a growing medium? How does peat help the plant (if at all) and is it bad for them in any way?

that looks nice strong and healthy man, what soil, nutes etc are you giving it? and is that vegging under an hps.. pretty impressive I'm particularly interested in this grow because I've got some ak48s coming and will be going cfls and a 250w hps all the way, in the same closet size too heh good...

Update Two more have sprouted out of the soil and are now going for those CFLs! Now, 3 sprouted seedlings are on 24/0 at the moment, and on most days are getting some direct sunlight for a few hours in the afternoon. Any ideas on when I should switch to 20/4? What am I supposed to look out...

I planted them about 1-1.5cm down in the soil with the shoot growing out of the crack pointing up. Is that right?

Yeah I'm afraid the soil is a bit like that, with lots of chunky bits but I guess it means oxygen will have no problem getting in. It does dry out relatively often as a result though, but I keep spraying it down with drops of water every few hours.

60 hours from planting First to sprout so far, pics attached! I'm no expert in this but if anyone could take a look at it and comment.. as you can see from the first two pictures a thin growth has come up above the soil but then curls back down towards the soil, and its maybe 3-4mm in total...

Okay so I've planted all of them.. won't be too disappointed if they don't grow as I left them in water for too long..

Also, anyone know roughly how long I'm looking at for them to pop up above the soil if I didn't mess anything up?

So it's okay to just plant the seeds in soil without them cracking first? They are pretty swollen up after all and definitely did respond to the water..
