I thought light penetraion may have been a factor as well. I stopped defoliation around day 21 and the canopy filled up quickly with new leaves, I didn't want to strip again just in case I stunted their growth in mid flower... but yeah the canopy was pretty thick

I've come across the same problem but it's every now and again. I assume that sometimes I'm measuring more accurately then others. I've Evan purchased new measuring jugs and syringes.

If that fan was that close the whole time than I'd lean towards wind burn.

Unless your using RO water, LEDs or Coco then you shouldn't have to add any Calmag. Sounds like it may be potassium deficiency. Post up some photos so we can get a better idea. If it is a potassium def you'll probably make it worse if you dial the nutrients back. Make sure your EC is around...
