I had a similar thing in mind & you can actually get lamp stands like you describe. Kinda ugly though. Now that I've found the above bulbs I'm gonna just buy a floor standing reading lamp with a big enough shade... I have one already & it's very adjustable (and it'll sit nicely in a corner...
