    modular overkill led striplight build

so another round, its day 1 12/12. simply another 4 do sweet dos of the sweet pheno, do like it, genetic is strong. theyre in soil again as i am not really having the time for some more complicated atm. its the same soil mix as before plus some i "recharged" with EWC and let it sit in the...

Study shows 14% increase in tomato yields with interlighting

sure there are practical borders and there is a point where the return is very little in comparsion for the effort and money put in. i can not tell you use x amount of leds and you get x percent more. could be worth to dig in to the formulas given in the last study and combine it with some own...

Study shows 14% increase in tomato yields with interlighting

i would agree that the sky always provide some diffuse light, depending on where you are and season youre in it will differ a lot. there is no number mentioned sadly. "A clear, dry atmosphere will produce a large amount of direct light but little diffuse light. You’ll see a high contrast...

oh instead of the word penetration we can refer in future to the lambert beer law? think its a nice name :D, no one can complain. "The PPFD decreases exponentially with canopy depth according to the Lambert–Beer law " for these things are even formulas there. when we speak of penetration, we...

Study shows 14% increase in tomato yields with interlighting

this is a eye opening article " Background and Aims Plants use diffuse light more efficiently than direct light. However, experimental comparisons between diffuse and direct light have been obscured by co-occurring differences in environmental conditions (e.g. light intensity). This study aims...

Study shows 14% increase in tomato yields with interlighting

we can not compare our indoor lightning setups to the sun, sunlight is very even compared to what we consider here as a strong artifical pointy source of light. you can hold your ppfd meter over your head or lay it on the ground it will show always some similar value outside., sun is huge...

Study shows 14% increase in tomato yields with interlighting

seems were back to the usual discussion here, haha. there is no light really blasting through a leaf. green is reflected to a good part (why we see plants as green), these green photons are bouncing back n forth and therefore hitting lower areas. green is also absorbed not only reflected of...

Study shows 14% increase in tomato yields with interlighting

normally the more lightsources you use and the better spread they are dictates "penetration". so leds are normally better in this regard. probably leds are used as its convenient using them this way ?, they dont suffer the efficiency loss HID would have when taking a 400W and a 200W instead of a...

https://www.ledsmagazine.com/horticultural-lighting/article/14277083/study-shows-14-increase-in-tomato-yields-with-interlighting "A study by a Dutch university has shown that placing about a third of a greenhouse’s LED grow lights among high wire tomato crops rather than suspending all of them...

youre right with the drilling. but depending on where you are, you can get 2020 or similar extrusions relative cheap. no overview over the recent plug n play options am out there but am sure there is nice stuff also.

oh, the fotops are from china, but well, "only" using lm561c or such. i mean i am sure you know the usual DIY offers from china, if thats any option to you. shipping just a few bare boards is way cheaper then to ship a whole fixture. am myself very happy with the robustness of the blux strips so...

forgot, one of rocket souls favorites is or was the fotop 800 if i am right. thats easy to build and easy to run low. you may will be surpirsed. problem here is that they a bit outdated led wise and i think there is no recent replacement.

regarding the vertical space, i do use 140mm pc fans on top of my fixture. that cost me maybe a good 3cm the beefy pinheaded heatsinks ive used for cobs hab been way taller. the mars you are refering to really runs a bit hot to what people report. i think its their cheapest light in the lineup...

i cant really comment on the usual extrusion used on the bar leds sold as i am not even using these. there are diferences, some use beefier heatsinks some dont, we cant throw them all together. basically i think these extrusions arent bad, prob way cheaper to manufactor then pinheaded ones (do...

i dont have any led design at hand, there will be some running their leds too hard to claim high wattage numbers. in the end everybody have to decide on his own how cool he want his leds. i did used lm301b based boards without any heatsinks before i used EB3s, but same concecpt driven ultra low...

the numbers i was refernig to for the EB3 strips where the nominal, same for the 1818 Cob. am too lazy too calc what Mars and else drives their leds with. there is probably room for improvement in future generations. while what they all do will be complete within specs. the math for your...

pc fan or mini oscilating fan?

exact same reason had me pick Artic 140mm ones too, have their version made for static pressure running on 5V from a USB port (handy to have some USB ports in the tent anyway). going to be way less then a watt, prob more like 0.5W. these artic ones are quite cheap also, ive payed about 5 bucks a...

pc fan or mini oscilating fan?

nothing wrong with pc fans, lots of them are very high quality. i do use a few of them running 24/7 since years in grow setups. depending on the usecase they can be a very handy tool, dont need much space. i saw some let them hang on a strip, they circulate then a bit.

you may say that, but honestly, do the math. 1 foot EB3 strip 2.54 x 28 =71cm2 13.4W 0.18W per square cm. 1818 cititzen 2.8x2.8 =7,84cm2 35W 4.4W per square cm. pretty much all people here buy a light which is overpowered for their needs and none runs it a 100% 4y long without pause. again...

youre basing your estimations on what migro guessed in a youtbue video. nothing wrong with that, it gives the direction and tells us some but its no absolute number. most people here struggle to give 100% on their given area, so their fixtures will last way longer. also consider that most of the...
