I've got 4 of them covering a roughly 13x8 area in addition to a 400w MH bulb in the center of them and I think the spread is great. Could you link any testing to confirm they have horrible spread? I've just never heard of anyone suggesting that.

Shouldn't be an RH issue, in the winter I use ventilation to cool my flower room (~5k of light) and my temps range from 70-88 depending on the outdoor temperature, so they fluctuate similarly to natural summer days. Due to the air flow, though, the RH is consistently 18-30% with lights on.
