What is a good distance to have my light (150 watt HPS) from my plants? The distance: Lid to top of plant - About 8" Lid to bottom of light - About 31"

My system is a cross between a DWC and Aeroponics unit. I am about a month into my grow from seed, but I am noticing that others that are growing in a similar fashion have taller plants, what could be causing this or is this normal?
