Ok cool, so all of the plant is respectable due to the sun's intensity, but the outer ones are even better. Does that outermost exposure to the sun have any correlation with the brownish appearance common to outdoor buds?

This is entirely false. In my experience, plants with hollow stems are all quite healthy, if a bit leggy.
