if you were soaking them for 7 days...that sounds like the problem
plus, paper towel method from most experiences, gets them cracked within 24-72 hours

don't watter from a bottle... use a spray bottle and turn the nozzle until it sprays as a mist.... then squirt the soil 5 times every 12 hours... i feel a spray bottle is helpful in small grows
