Some growers dont remote the ballast as they need the additional heat to keep the grow space within the correct temps range..But a remote ballast also helps you get the light position just right, as you tend (depending on HPS manufacturer) to get a lil more useable room with the ballast out of...

good tip downthedrain. i used the guts from my hps to mount it to a barn style batwing reflector, and made a lil metal rame/casing for the ballast that sits on top of my cab with a 12v fan blowing thru it to keep the unit cool, works like a dream.

    Time to harvest?

Have a lil faith in yourself, You're not incorrect bro.. The majority of growers harvest plants in 2 or 3 or poss even more waves. Alot of marijuana strain mature from the top so you take those buds and any of the side nugs that are ready then leave the rest of the plant to finish the flowering...

    Time to harvest?

Dont harvest by pistil color alone. In the 70's they used to harvest when the pistils were like 80% orange/brown, but that means that alot of the bud is still not at its peak. Invest in a jewellers loupe or a trichome scope... when the pistils start chaniging color, use the loupe/scope to check...

    Weed disposal

Like the others said,Make hash with your leaf trim. I keep most of my fan leaves and any leftover trim, dry it out and use it instead of tobacco, or to lessen the amount of tobacco i would use. then you you can safely throw the root ball and main stem into the trash.

    Silly question

Yeah Sea, its from a local farm that composts its waste material each yr after the fall harvest... they mulch the waste vegetable matter and manures etc and create huge great frickin mounds of compost, then they use the farm machinery to 'turn' the compost regularly so it all matures at the...

    Silly question

If i get stuck for organic soil off my local supplier, i often use Wests Advanced +, its quite loamy, and doesnt compact like some composts, also its texture and make up aids root development and is easier for the roots to grow through. It has good water retention without leaving it soaked...
