Sand is good when used mixed with soil to increase drainage as stated. Sand would not likely work well as a medium by itself because it would not be able to get saturated with water/nutes, requiring constant watering/ferting.

The main reason people dont use halogen is because a big % of light does not get used by the plant because its the wrong spectrum.

The light yellow patches that you can see there is white hairs poking out the middle of each of those and about 3-4 MM buds in everyone.
