HID lamps such as MH/HPS need there own special ballasts (I'm no electrician so don't ask me why). These ballasts are then plugged into your normal household socket, yes. Your dimensions are a little vague. Are they 4Wx4H, or 4Wx4L, or what? I'm just trying to find out if a HID will even fit...

You are spot on, on everything above. I also love HIDs, because yes you only have one fixture to worry about. I hate dealing w/ all the wiring of multiple CFLs. ;-)

Pretty sure he was talking about ACTUAL wattage. 40w EQUIVALENTS would be pretty small CFLs. Go w/ the HID tho for sure. BTW, somebody here gave me +rep. Just a tip signing your name isn't a bad thing : )

Ya, this is pretty common it's called "dwarfing". Just skipping the veg cycle to hurry up the process, and procuring about a 1/2 oz. if lucky

Why would anyone have problems w/ electricity? Do you mean paying the bill? If it's not that, than go for the 400w MH/HPS. BTW the CFL setup would run you more.

Just curious... How many plant's do you usually have around at any given time? Don't include seedlings or clones. I'm envious of your setup. Ya I saw the potting soil. I would have to re pot shortly after they sprouted, and I didn't want to deal w/ that. I went w/ the "organic" stuff. I added 30% perlite, and 1 Tbsp of "Garden Lime". I hope they sprout, this was two days ago btw.

I've recently started 8 seeds, 4 Northern Light, 4 Ice. I started half in MG "organc", and the other half in "Scotts" brand. I'm gonna do a little experiment of my own to see if I can get some good shit from MG. I know it's fairly easy to over water in MG, and very easy to burn. So I'm staying...

O don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing anyone, and I respect everyones enthusiasm, but I'm new to soil. Just taken a break from hydro. Doing my first soil grow, and I want to do one outdoors, but I want a good chance that I'll end up w/ a decent crop. So I'm just gonna stick to this indoor soil...

Sounds like a green house to me. Last time I heard they worked. i'm not sure if this design is the same tho. What about nights?
