If you have the proper growing environments with no stress, and the femanized seed was bred properly, you will have no males and hermi problems. I'm not with you. Feminized seeds are handy.

I don't see any point in tieing it down at that size. You want the top of the plant lower than the new branches. You'll just have a weird stem. Like mine:

The feminized plant i have going now showed at 3 1/2 weeks. I wasn't expecting to see anything there but the calyx was fully formed so i don't know when i started. I'll start another seed of this strain sometime and see of that shows early as well.

If you have multiple branches at an even canopy they will all look the same near the top (besides the bottom of the plant) because they're all receiving equal amounts of light and energy

i still don't know if you're mistaking the new pear shaped growth (branches) for preflowers but leave them where they are until you're 100% sure. You will easily be able to tell a males sex well before he pops.
