Yes, conventional nutrients will work but Miracle Grow probably isn't the best stuff. A lot of people like Peter's Professional as an alternative to the big name hydroponic stuff. I'm just working on a grow using a product called Plant-Prod and I'm very happy with it.

Chicken shit in your soil mix is pre-fertilized. I would imagine that chicken shit is very high in Nitrogen. I would just water for a while and not add any nutes to it till it grows more.

I have found that when going from veg to flower, if you gradually reduce the light, it stretches less. It should fill in though, 3 inches isnt' bad compared to some of the others I've seen on here.

It should be possible. Once you put them under the 1000w HPS, they will shoot up fast. If you veg with it for a week, they will grow a foot before you flip, as long as they are in good condition. As for the florescent, I use T8 shop lights for cloning and for them to start out and they grow fast...

They look a bit stretched although fairly healthy. I would put the light closer, espcially on the smaller ones so they dont' stretch as much. You could flower anytime, but you should change to a soft white bulb (2700K) for flowering and gradually reduce the light to 12/12.

What type of soil are you using? A lot of potting soils come pre-fertilized which can still be too hot for small mj plants. I wouldn't add anything to that soil and just water for the next while. Adding stuff now can sometimes just create more problems.
