its your job to give the best environment to get the best possible results. You may not see problems but you are holding yourself back. Roots hate light thats why they grow in the ground.

Ditto! I would paint the res black to keep the light out then paint a 2ed coat white so it will reflect the light back to your plants. This will also help keep your res cooled than if you left it black as the white will reflect the light.

This will be a huge waste of your time. Sorry to be the one to tell you this. You could get maybe one small one in soil but you will not be happy with the results.
