I wrap my buckets in mylar, more reflective than any paint, when using bottles it's important that the roots have darkness as they can develop mold...with all the water it's holding, really has nothing to do with reflective qualities

No you can't expand to the container as it expands to like 900 times it's size, an 11 pound block filled a 43 quart tub, and weighted a ton with 9 gallons of water

I do mine 25% or less perlite and coco, and a all perlite reserve, helps to hold the water in the bottom and makes the roots reach for it... get a block or a bag already ready to go, depending on your area, I bought a block of Coco from Amazon for 11.00, makes a whole tote full, I think I added...

FJG, I switched to co co and find it much better than straight perlite, the darkness is good for the roots, it's not like soil...so throw that out the window...but more like a coffee ground texture, that holds water better than soil, start you seed in rockwool, then into a solo cup of perlite or...

I have noticed some of my taller plant can't hold themselves up anymore, they are so top heavy, I have been putting the 2 liters in gallon jugs for stability...Now that I know how tall they will get about 4 feet, I will either LST them or stop growing the tall ones...I had a bunch of them fall...
