    LED Comparisons?

Thanks. You may want to take a good look at those 'name brand' emitters. Good luck finding those emitters produced by any of the names mentioned. The Chinese manufacturers' claims are mostly horse hockey. It's not that they won't work. The issue for me is the low efficiency, high failure...

    LED Comparisons?

Been at the LED game since 2009. Lots of Chinese made lights and DIY lights with Chinese emitters. I had some decent grows but I always felt I could kick it up to a higher level. Like SDS and GG I came to the conclusion that high quality components like Cree, Bridgelux, Luxeon, Nichia, Osram...

IF you are new to LED and want help choosing what to buy, POST HERE!

I hear ya! Those little bastards give me the heebeejeebees too but I hear that they're pretty good a eating pests that can do damage to the crop. I still stomp on them though. Wasps and bees also tend to get me excited. I once watched a full grown man drive off the road and crash because of...

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

HeatsinkUSA has been pretty quick at getting orders to me. 8 days seems long for a domestic order. If you are not in the US your order should still arrive soon. You may want to check with them if it doesn't arrive soon. Also, you may be very pleasantly surprised at how little you have to do...

What's the most honest way to express grams per watt?

I think grams/watt is really an arbitrary measurement given all of the other factors in the life and health of the plant. Veg time introduces the largest variable but other factors like co2 concentrations, foliar feeding, strategic defoliation, variations in temperature and RH as well as...

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

Good advice. I totally agree with that. Running them soft = more lumens/watt, lower heat, longer life. Better coverage area with 10 emitters as apposed to half as many running harder.

need help Driver Replacement Advanced LED Grow Lamp 360 W

hh If you take a working driver and plug it into the string that is not lighting up, is the string still dead or does it light? If the dead string still does not light up with a good working driver you likely have only one diode burnt out in that string. Diodes fail way more often than...

Periodic Led Dimming: Maximising Efficiencies ?

A modification is in the air! Way above my head but very cool indeed.

Outstanding! Brilliant! That is one very happy girl. She speaks volumes to the quality of your light build.

Periodic Led Dimming: Maximising Efficiencies ?

Yesterday I installed 4 of these in my latest Vero build for the very reason you suggest. http://www.ledgroupbuy.com/exotic-hyper-violet-led-430nm/ I am in total agreement that quality white emitters are clearly the best solution but they do need a little supplementation at both ends of the...

Periodic Led Dimming: Maximising Efficiencies ?

Sorry about that. I can only offer anecdotal 'evidence' for an answer. I get more per plant, per square meter, per crop (total yields) with a mover. Just as you mentioned, due to more surface irradiation. I originally started using a mover because I wanted better than great buds directly...

Periodic Led Dimming: Maximising Efficiencies ?

I like it simple. Better (not necessarily more) nutrition (in terms of light) = happier plants = better yields.

Periodic Led Dimming: Maximising Efficiencies ?

That's an interesting concept. If anyone can decipher this, it's you. I think that whatever I can do to emulate the natural environment in which the plant evolved assists the plant. I have and still use a light mover because I want to emulate the movement of light over the leaves surfaces...

Thinking of a new light ..

Thanks from one nicely matured fart to another! The plants are now 4.5 weeks into flower with about the same left to go. The earlier picture was taken a week ago. Here are some shots of the girls now. I could have let them grow in veg a bit more but I had to move them to make room for 2...

Thinking of a new light ..

I see... I am a true believer that where there is a will there is a way. As long as you use quality thermal adhesive and get real good contact on the surfaces it could work. You will need to move some air over those heat sinks though.

Thanks Rooster. You might have a look at heatsinkusa.com They offer a great assortment of heat sinks at what I think are reasonable prices.

Thinking of a new light ..

Thanks Again! Some people would say we are obsessed. True story in my case. The marvel you just finished is far more advanced than anything I will likely build. I have not told you yet but you did an EXCELLENT job. Please keep on dreaming and sharing. The fans are blowing air toward the...

Thanks! It means a lot coming from you. I don't have the electronics expertise you do but I somehow manage. I consider you one of my mentors because of your understanding of electronics and how that applies to our quest for the best. The fans are Rocketfish brand sold by Best Buy link-...

Thinking of a new light ..

My latest build was an attempt to do just what you suggest. I tried 15 Vero 13 emitters running at 350ma attached to a 1.6" thick serrated heat sink measuring 13.8" x 17". It run acceptably cool but, as always, I wanted more. The drivers I am using now run at 600ma. With the addition of 2...
