bieeettccchh i get 3% user CPU and 4% sys CPU on average. The drivers eat up more CPU time :P And no, I won't get into the spaces vs tabs debate. (scala style recommends spaces tho) EDIT: plus I use intellij with smart tabs. I can use the key, and it does what i want with spaces! weeeeee

plants also look a bit nitrogen sick- im really thinking that must be a biological thing in the end, not sure what would cause a spike in nitrogen like that.

been a while since updating- not really much going on. My rez is now dropping in ph pretty constantly, but the roots seem fine, rez seems fine... everything seems fine? So not sure if it's some sort of biological die-off or something, but it is getting more stable each day. Plants are really...

    Beneficial Microbes

Interesting, what did you do to propagate them? I think if you can get em propagated in an aerobic environment, i'd think it should be fine to just dump em in the rez. From what I read the root fungi are really sensitive anyways, so you lose a bunch during inoculation. But having a really...

    Ph

Very cool! I often wish I kept with chemistry throughout school, always loved the stuff and it made a lot of sense to me, but besides hydro haven't really had opportunities to use any of what I learned. Yea, as far as battery acid I actually ended up just buying dilute reagent grade stuff from...

    Ph

Old meds on the money as far as carbonate 'bounce'. Carbonates and phosphates are really tricky as far as precipitating nutrients out and buffering. At least for tap water I'm trying to 'break' some of the carbonate buffer ahead of time, sulfuric acid works, nitric acid is supposed to be even...

Yea, cyanide and sulfur dioxide can definitely be a concern. i just try to vent it before spending too much time in there lol

yup! eventually ill open source this, at least that's what im designing it for. I've been working on a contrib to the Pi4J repo as far as more low-leve sensor support- everything is Java/Scala right now but it's really trim and is set up to send stats to a remote server- right now im using a...

Plants look like they're starting to take form. Seems like from the hula haze i have 2 stretchy sativa dominant, and 1 bushy indica dominant. The 1 amnesia lemon (middle) is still doing ok, but really not much action. Can barely see it. I'd like to get clones from all of em, but so far my...

    Beneficial Microbes

Yeah I'm pretty sure I gotta do predator mites when i switch to flower. Being semi-outdoors has reallllly sucked for me so far. I thought I was being good about keeping bugs out, but theres still like 2 or 3 dead moths after every rez change (using hotshots right now... speaking of chemicals...)

    Beneficial Microbes

I just might be able to help you there! I'll see if i can round up a few samples this week and see if i get anything im confident isnt contaminated. Any kind of preferred solution? Acids, borax, whatnot... really not sure how to preserve biomass that well... just sample and freeze? lol EDIT: i...

    Beneficial Microbes

Greasemonkey! Still got your bennie-mite guy info handy for when i get into flowering ;) Yes, not needing microbes is pretty much the ideal situation. If everything is working perfectly, the microbes you add to your system should die pretty quickly. But, if there's something there for them to...

    Beneficial Microbes

Even if you can figure out ideal incubation, activation, and innoculation for one of these single strain hydro microbes, you could save so much money on commercial inoculants.

    pH System

Yeah, especially the slow/weak acid/base/buffers. Takes forever to neutralize especially if bumping solubility limits. I've screwed things up so much adjusting too quickly. Especially with up. Honestly if you can auto titrate, you shpuld probably use the hardest (strong, not just concentrated)...

Oh shit! Bio assays, I'm in. Get a friend's and family discount? ;) That's really cool, you pretty much have to run a live hydro res now! Having access to good bio analytics stuff could really get you far.
