With the gloves thing. You just don't want to get any residue from your fingers on the bulb, or it could explode. I used to take bulbs off with a clean cloth.

During veg, I did notice she didn't go through a lot of water. But as of late, especially with this Bay Area heat, I've been watering her like every 4-5 days, and that's in a 10 gallon pot.
