Never tried sand paper but probably less risky than pinching them. Had one of them crack not on the seam of the husk.

Ya I was shocked it worked haha. Definitely motivated me to try to dial in the method because it kills me to toss seeds out.

Ended up trying this with some 7+ year old and surprisingly... it worked. Tried it on 4 seeds that had still not popped after two weeks of soaking. Pinched them between by fingers until I heard a crack. Put them back in the paper towel and the next day all 4 had tails. Got excited and tried it...
