Plant Moisture Stress - Symptoms and Solutions

Are you calculating the ppm based on ppm of your water and how much nutes you add by volume? I assumed you where using a probe and sticking it in the water. My question is how are you getting the ppm? I've always measured EC. My meter has PPM display but it is just the EC times a factor...

dave, sorry just skimmed it the first time I read that as heat goes up color changes. I've known about this (blackbody radiation). But like the link says even at white hot 99% of the energy is IR (infrared) which we can not see. That is my point. This IR will not be stopped by fans...

hotwired, I guess we would have to know how much radiant heat the glass and fixture absorb to know how much heat is being removed. with vert you can still opt for cool tubes... I am basically ducting because I am assuming it is optimal based on the fact that many people do it. I have seen...

Plant Moisture Stress - Symptoms and Solutions

when you say ppm what is your conversion factor? I assume you are really measuring EC. If not are you measuring the nutes and calculating the ppm? EC is not PPM, it is an estimation and there are several common conversions.

Did I say something to offend you? Why go on your way? Why don't we understand each other. I got confused when you said radiant heat needs to be replaced by my exhaust fan. I didn't follow, now I see you are saying the hot air needs to be replaced. I see that you mean you vent the lights...

Uncle Ben's Gardening Tweeks and Pointers

Has anyone considered hanging their lights at an angle? For example, say I have a 4x8 and two 1000 watt lights. The hood has a sharp shadow. I was thinking of hanging the lights at the ends of the table and angle them so the light that normally bounces off mylar will be angled down and the...

hotwired, I use a wall mounted AC. I can't remember the BTU. I lost the manual and can't see the model number... The room is kept at 78 F. What do you mean the radiant heat needs to be replaced by the exhaust fan ? The exhaust fan on the ducts? That doesn't move radiant heat. Cooling...

hotwired, people with sealed rooms commonly run ducted lights... they just pull from outside and vent outside. I actually do the same. I do what you say. I pull from outside split into two, run each line over two lights reconnect the two to one and pull 747 cfm. I pull from outside and vent...

Uncle Ben's Topping Technique to Get 2 or 4 Main Colas

I'm thinking that I'll count each single shoot the same way I'd treat each two shoots from a seed. Basically when my plants are about 12 inch tall I'll cut them. Like you said, it is about topping the plant when it is ready and established.

Uncle Ben's Topping Technique to Get 2 or 4 Main Colas

dave, I'm not asking how many to leave, I'm asking how many to have in total before I top. With seeds I counted each two branches as a node, with clones they are not two by two, but singe branches. Do I count each branch as a node or each two (like with seeds). I have already been leaving...

Uncle Ben's Gardening Tweeks and Pointers

I'm not trying to argue with you, first of all... If you reduce radiant heat you will also reduce the light. I'm simply thinking there is nothing that can be done. The heat is just part of the spectrum of HID lights. We can't blow it away anymore than we can blow away red light. I'd be...

Uncle Ben's Gardening Tweeks and Pointers

Dave, I am reading on of your other threads about yield. There is an article that says air cooling removes heat at the source. Air cooling removes the hot air in the hood, but does nothing to stop the radiant heat. On a cold day the sun still feels hot on your skin. I'm wondering if...

Uncle Ben's Topping Technique to Get 2 or 4 Main Colas

When topping clones do you could every two nodes (that are not at the same height) as a node or do you count each alternate node as a node? I have a bunch of clones that I plan to top. I will leave 3 on some 4 on others (alternating nodes), just want to know about when to top.

Uncle Ben's Gardening Tweeks and Pointers

I have two 747 cfm fans. One of them pulls air over 4 1000 watt lights the other sucks air from the room through a filter into my veg room. I started thinking that instead of running the ducted fans over the lights if I should just move more room air. Shouldn't it all equal out in the end...

    Subcool's Super Soil

Isn't there intended use soil? Why do you say this anyways, what was your experience? I have used them in with soil and had great results, so they do work well with soil for my environment. I don't think it is a good think to simply say 'they don't work well with soil' as a blanket statement...

I used them for veg and flower. I don't like transplanting from them. It is a pain to get the bag off. I un-roll it. Now I'm vegging in plastic and finishing in smart pots (1 gal transplanted to 5 gal)

420proj, you'll need to specify the NPK of your fert, what is it? the light bill will depend on how long you run the lights per 24 hour period and how much your power co charges for a kw hour, it should be on your bill

capt, you could also use your grow to 'prove' that mh is diff than hps I mean being that you used different lights how can you infer that the hours are what caused the changes? With all due respect, I don't see this as evidence. I'm not saying 20/4 is good or bad, it is what I use.
