i like to use the compressed dirt rapid rooter cubes made by general hydroponics they work for me with great success from cloning to starting seeds

i recomed raising and lowering your light and for the plants that are just a tad bit shorter i my self depending on your system you could prp the shorte plats on bricks ive used old books (this was for soil in plastic bags)but any thing that if it gets wet its obviously not going to dissolve in...

you could it would be better than nothing i guess.I used a regular shop fixture with two four ft regular floresent tubes and it worked pretty good for cloneing and veg gotta keep it close so u dont get to much stetch thats the worst part

rockwool is pretty much fiberglass i believe
