Yes, a fan is necessary. I started my grow without one and it was a mistake. Since I've added one to my room my plants are growing even better.

I'm in my first grow and I'm using Fox Farm's liquid line: Big Bloom, Grow Big, and Tiger Bloom. These three will take you thru veg and flower. No problems so far and I've been following their feeding schedule with lowered doses.

I believe the Grow Big during the 3rd week is to give the plant a N boost, but I could be wrong. I agree that you should start at a lower dose and work your way to full strength. I'm not into flowering yet but I've been following FF's schedule since the beginning and I've had no problems yet.

I don't have any first hand experience with using any home pH +/- solutions so I can't attest to anything just yet. There's definitely alot of information floating around, good and bad, so it pays to do thorough research.
