The ladies do love a good LED spectrum that is for sure. LED prices will start to come down in residential type lighting but it will take a bit for that to trickle down to us growers, IMHO.

Hey sgt, they can seem pricey at first but if you look at the cost per watt they are actually very affordable. This does bring up a question I have wanted to ask the LED community regarding what is considered expensive or even cheap. I always see people write this or that light is expensive but...

Interesting, can't find any actual wattage on their site and they just refer to it as 240w. I am guessing you are correct within 10-15 watts based on what I can gather from their site. Assuming it is 135 watts I don't believe their specifications regarding footprint will pan out. What size...

Have you hooked that light up to a kill-a-watt? Curious what the actual draw is.

Hey JC, this will definitely depend on the levels of CO2 and other variables (genetics, nutrients, etc.) but for the Platinum XL (NOT the Platinum XL-U) you would want to be about 20"-22" off the canopy. I did see a customer get much closer but he was running a light mover about 8" to remove...

Which is why we made the move to wider angle and not the lenses many LED companies have gone to. Once you have solid power and a great spectrum the spread really can come into play. We experimented to prove this in our own R&D and continue to test lenses etc. with our Spectroradiometer. We know...

For LEDs, or any light for that matter, to be truly effective in maximizing a plants potential you need two things; spectrum AND power. Miss the mark on either of those and you will not see full potential. Often people focus on one at the expense of the other, from what I have seen.

I like to think of it as frugal, not cheap. Yeah, that is a good deal and in your case it sounds like the perfect fit. LED definitely produces better quality, which was anecdotal and as the lab reports are starting to come back it is becoming proven. And BTW, I did not think you were bashing...

Have you ever considered testing the final product with a lab? The one we just got the news about was the first. The funny thing is we are just about to have a lab test some samples from a customer which is blind since we don't know which is which and the customer won't tell us which is which...

First Grow Under Vipar A200( Afghan Skunk and CH9 Jack)

Agreed, depending on the sunglasses budman dug out and how far the UV is they may actually look like they aren't even working. The white would stand out and they would definitely help balance out the spectrum with the few wavelengths they were using before. Would love to see their full spectrum...

Not familiar with them so I don't know if the white is new but yes budman, the light from the whole fixture wouldn't be white (most likely more reddish) but those individual LEDs would look white. Of course you should not be looking directly at the light without eye protection. We actually use...

I doubt you are lucky. I am guessing you are a good grower. People often loose sight of the fact that lights are only part of the equation. Nutrients, temps, growing medium, and a myriad of other factors play an arguably larger role. One thing that would be tough to argue; an LED can (I say CAN...

No, not trying to sell lights. If we depended on people from this forum for light sales we would not be in business for almost 4 years. I DO respect the people on this forum and their opinions. Used to read all the time as a grower. Now, I am looking for insight and opinions because of all the...

I would be curious as to what you mean by statements like "I include California Lightworks in the less expensive category as they are not that unreasonable for what you get" The best way to compare LED grow lights by today's standards is cost/watt. We can discuss spectrum and light/build quality...

Hey budman111, Power is only a part of the equation, arguably just as important for yields and especially quality, the spectrum is also very important. I don't see anything on the Vipar product pages about the spectrum. Do you know anything about their spectrum? I did notice that they use 60...

I agree that targeted spectrums are hard to deal with individually or in small numbers but when we use 17 different LEDs (mostly targeted and a few broad) in large panels we are able to get a beautiful curve. The goal for us is to get as close to the the action spectrum as possible while...

Why do you say "too fast"? I was asking about all three which is why I said UV/IR and far-red. Just curious since you don't refer to them at all on your site. Stardustsailor, that would be perfect and better violet % since it would be spot on with what we use. You would be right to back it off...
