Umm.. Well you are gonna want to let fresh air in and just not blow around stagnent air. You will need some type of ventilation system to let in fresh air and to exhaust old air. Hope this helps...

You sure can, the more light the better. Especially on the sides and bottom where the light cannot reach...

You want at least a foot or more off the top of the plant, probably a lil more because of your ventilation issues... Try chaning your light schedule to 18/6 and see what happens...

Some you put water in to aid in filtering it more as well as catch ash and others are there to just catch the ash (no water in them)

I have never heard of that. Sounds like it could be too much stress on the plant changing the light so much. Also I dont think you would want 24hr on 24hr off... Unless you just meant 24hr on all the time then work your way back down... Might force it into hermie. Try it out and start a grow...

How far away is your light? What light schedule are you giving the clones? 18/6 or 16/8 are the best for root growth. Try moving up your light as well as flushing your pots and giving them just water for the next week or so until they are ready for nutes.. Could also be that the mother is on...
