A humidifier works fine as long as you are not venting more then needed. You can get them pretty cheap at home depot, ebay etc.

If I could only get one, I would get HPS since that is what you want to flower with, and that is really why you are doing all this in the first place. You can try using it for the veg to, but they might stretch a lot, even compared to the CF. Using MH for veg, and going back to CF for flower...

They have them at home depot - called "starting somthing", but they are not round - you have to bend them and click them together - one side of the coupling is solid, and the other has "fingers". Can't miss them in the ducting section. I have the same filter.

MH for veg, HPS for flowering. Get a good quality bulb with a broader spectrum - a good quality HPS will have more blue spectrum then a cheap one, which is closer to real sunlight.

A water softener will help, and usually brings the PPM down somewhat too. I soften my water, and then run it through an ro+di filter. By softening it first, the filters last longer because it is filtering salt and potassium, rather then a lot of hard minerals. If it is really hard water like...
