This is why I went rdwc. I run a hose to my drain pump and flip some valves and switches for res changes. Looking great though! Well worth the effort.

Technically it is true in that all the plants in a rdwc system receive the same EC/PH. I think what you are referring to is the fact that you need to watch these things like a hawk and make changes based on the plants responses. When things go bad in dwc they go bad fast.

I re-calibrated my PH sensor again and the PH went from 5.7 to 5.5... I wonder if that was the problem. I haven't recalibrated it in about a week and a half.

I'm a noob so take this fwiw, but what I did was keep the water level 2" below the netpot and use a top feed on a timer for 1 min 3 times a day until the roots hit the water. I also have quite a lot of bubbling action keeping the hydroton moist, so you could look into that.

I ended up teeing off a hose before the DI stage and it gets me about 5-10 ppm drinking water. The last stage gets is to 0 no problem starting from 260.

One thing to watch out for is the product to waste water ratio, if you care about that sort of thing. I just bought and setup a 4 stage water saver unit from BRS, and I can fill up my whole 17 gal top off res in less than 2 hours at a 1:1.5 water:waste ratio.
