Is hydro that much Better than soil? Wanting the big yield in small numbers

Over watering is when the roots are deprived of oxygen, no? What if your water temps rise? What if the humidity in your bucket rises? What if the roots get stressed/stunted/damaged or begin to rot? All of these situations will deprive the plant's roots of oxygen.

Is hydro that much Better than soil? Wanting the big yield in small numbers

Most growers mix their own soil..they make their own mix either for aeration purposes, or for organic nutrients. And it's not always necessary to pH your water or check ppm before feeding, if you have buffers and organics in your soil. You can still overwater and underwater in hydro, and you...

Is hydro that much Better than soil? Wanting the big yield in small numbers

Because I originally said that I don't believe that hydro is better because "you have to pay more attention, more things can go wrong, and hydro setups are much more expensive than soil."...and you just proved that "things can go really bad in an active hydro system" so you have to pay...

Is hydro that much Better than soil? Wanting the big yield in small numbers

"System depending"....there goes those magic words again....and the cost of one of those ebb & gro systems do not outweigh the benefits. Shit happens. A flood tray shouldn't leak..but it can overflow if the overflow drain or tube gets clogged. All it takes is a pump, switch or timer to fail...

Is hydro that much Better than soil? Wanting the big yield in small numbers

See, you just made my point - in an active system, when things go bad....they go REALLY bad. You had a bad spill (which I'm sorry to hear), and I had a pythium infection in my reservoir. You have to pay "extra attention" to your system in an active hydro system. These situations are hydro...

Is hydro that much Better than soil? Wanting the big yield in small numbers

Sure, An active system has moving parts - ie. timers, water pumps, air bubblers, float switches and some have feeding tubes, drip feeders and recirculating nutrients. A passive hydro system does not have any moving parts - ie. hand fed hempy buckets containing perlite, coco, hydroton, or...

Is hydro that much Better than soil? Wanting the big yield in small numbers

Again, you have a PASSIVE system, so it's easy for you to mix & set. But in an ACTIVE system things can go wrong quickly. We're using two totally different systems, and just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I'm being stubborn. I'm not sure how much clearer I can make that for you...

Is hydro that much Better than soil? Wanting the big yield in small numbers

The "difference on how the roots absorb nutrients" could be in your ability to control your pH levels for an entire week..or at least until your next res change. I could never just change the res, then walk away for an entire week. I do the same thing as you - change the res, mix the 7...

Is hydro that much Better than soil? Wanting the big yield in small numbers

*Systems depending* are the key words.. if he had an active hydro system then he would understand why it's like babysitting. I went with an active system because I wanted everything to be automatic, but it turned out to be more babysitting than automatic. I guess deciding between active &...

Is hydro that much Better than soil? Wanting the big yield in small numbers

"hydro is mainly for poeple who dont want to be in their garden constantly and that it" LOL, I can't believe he said that..that's a bunch of bullsh*t. But then again he's growing in coco, which isn't really hydro it's just a soil-less medium (pseudo-hydro). Hydro requires waaay more daily...

Is hydro that much Better than soil? Wanting the big yield in small numbers

Hey Thanks, but its not even what I'm doing wrong - it's just the fact that "shit happens". For example, my plants caught a mild case of Pythium, I can't really pin-point what I did wrong.. besides feed all my plants from a single reservoir. If I had them all in individual reservoirs, then only...

Is hydro that much Better than soil? Wanting the big yield in small numbers

No offense, but you don't know what research I've done..so your "do more research" taunts are falling on deaf ears. You don't know who I've spoken to, but if you had your facts straight then you would see that I'm on 5 or 6 different weed forums - talking to fellow growers daily. What research...

Is hydro that much Better than soil? Wanting the big yield in small numbers

You can read until your eyeballs fall out...but that still wont prepare you for the surprises that come with a hydro grow. Experience is the best teacher IMO. I agree that it takes a LOT of research and commitment before things go smoothly; it also takes a LOT of trial and error. When you're...

Is hydro that much Better than soil? Wanting the big yield in small numbers

I just started my first hydro grow... As of now, I don't think hydro is better..its way more expensive and it requires so much more care and attention to detail! It cost 3 times as much as soil, and its like a part time job setting up the equipment, measuring the nutes, testing the ph &...

stopped growth and droopy in bubble bucket?

Hey wavingnotdrowning, how's it going? Are things getting better? Did they make a full recovery? Quick update: My plants have improved, but not much over the last 48 hrs. I'm getting a ton of new bright green growth, and the plants are stretching but the old leaves don't seem to be perking...

    Nute Burn or Deficiency? *PICS*

What was the pH of your runoff? Have you seen any improvement??

    Nute Burn or Deficiency? *PICS*

In extreme cases, yes the entire leaf can twist and flip. But pH issues aren't always that extreme. Usually the first sign of a pH issue is 'multiple nutrient deficiencies'/ nute lockout. That is why everyone always says check your pH first when a plant is exhibiting multiple deficiencies. You...
