    new to organic, some questions

Alright, so I'm thinking something like this for my organic soil-less mix: 2 parts coco coir 2 parts EWC 1 part perlite 1 part biochar I've got some coir on the way, the Potassium Nitrate washed stuff I mentioned above. EWC will be easy enough to find, but I've got calls/emails in to a few...

So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

Can anyone set me up with a copy of that .pdf? I have tried downloading it twice, both times it said the file was damaged and wouldn't open.

So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

This explanation certainly gives credence to some of the soil mix suggestions I've seen on this thread, which are basically like "1 cup of each and every organic nutrient I could get my hands on" instead of recipes with varying amounts of different picked-and-chosen organic nutrients i.e. "1/2...

So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

If I have a chance, I will get the names of the makers of the EWC available around here and give them a call. Find out whether they are sprayed/sterilized. Maybe find out what they feed the worms at the same time :)

Thanks for the explanation - so how does spraying/sterilization alter this?

So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

From the YouTube comments on the Pro-Kashi vid: Not to sound like a 'hater'... but I'm sorta confused as to HOW this is 'better' for the planet? Processed wood... processed starting fluid.... processed burning containers... electricity for the blower...etc. All for charcol? Why wouldn't you...

Tried downloading this twice. Both times it said the file was damaged and could not be repaired.

So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

If that is the case, then I'm almost inclining towards not using EWC at all. I don't have any MJ-optimized EWC, wouldn't it make more sense to just use the bone/blood/guano/etc? Which are all known NPK ratios so you can mix 'em up and give your plants exactly what they need? Let it cook down...

So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

Something's been nagging me about EWC. If it's such a perfect fertilizer, why do we need all this other stuff bone meal, fish bone meal, kelp meal, guano, etc, etc? So couldn't one make a mix with just EWC and no other ferts? And vice versa, couldn't someone make a mix with no EWC and just the...

So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

I doubt you'll find biochar in hydro shops. You can get it online, though even online it's not very common. Or you can make your own.

So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

Since we were talking about charcoal in a coir mix (as an alternative to perlite) here's a tidbit I found on densucoir.com When you use Densu Coir as your growing medium you do not need to use any perlite or vermiculite I'm pretty sure they meant ALL coir, not just THEIR coir :)

Supersoil and LC both can be done in promix, no?

    new to organic, some questions

Another interesting tidbit I found out about coir. I talked to these guys, and they said that they have two kinds of washed coir. One is washed with plain water, to get rid of the ocean salt. But their premium stuff is also washed with Potassium Nitrate, to leach every last bit of salt out...

    new to organic, some questions

Regarding coco coir, from what I gather the highest quality stuff will be washed and aged/composted. The reason for the washing is to get rid of the salts. Even grown inland, coconut trees love their salt water, and of course that spells death for our plants. And the reason for the aging is that...

So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

Bokashi bran is supposed to be fermented with EM. EM contains a LOT more than just LactoB.

So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

Shiiit I had no idea you could make your own LactoB starter, that's awesome!

So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

I love the idea of bokashi composting, but I hate the idea of having to buy the bran. I am always looking for methods that require zero purchased inputs.

So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

Isn't carbon an element already? Can't really break things down any further than that... I didn't know that! Maybe I do need an innoculant then. Found two: Earth Juice BioZues and Earth Juice BioRighteous I have a small kitchen scrap compost bucket under my kitchen sink, maybe I'll just...

So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

Ok, so it sounds like I don't really NEED an innoculant, it'll just pick things out of the air and from the EWC etc. Another question - although I haven't actually seen it explicitly mentioned anywhere, I suspect charcoal/biochar would be a great alternative to perlite. Seems to have similar...
