Cheap grows are not the end of the world, and like you said it's a learning experience. However ignoring the advice of skilled growers over a $0.10 dixie cup probably isn't the best way forward. ;)

The plant is not getting the nutes it needs. Reccomend re-ph of medium, maybe repot with some perlite if you're feeling brave. If it carries on like this the plant will die.

I have to say I disagree dbkick, DIY carbon filters can save you hundreds of £$ and be highly effective. Guess it depends on the build quality.
