Turned on Duct Fan and Tent began to Reek! Help!

I checked the fan by running it for a few minutes by itself, and the smell returned...I even saw some smoke come out of the internal motor. It's a TD-150 brand new. I'm just noticing that the extension cord I'm using, which is 13 Amps, is UL listed for outdoor appliances. Not sure if that matters.

Turned on Duct Fan and Tent began to Reek! Help!

So I should have just gotten the reggie? I found an article that talks about ammonia and formaldehyde being emitted by insulated ducting when it isn't sealed up well, so I'm thinking that may have been the culprit. I was just cutting and pasting that shit with no regard for toxic gases.

Turned on Duct Fan and Tent began to Reek! Help!

Resume what though? If I left that fan on, the smell was going to get out of control. After taking the ducting apart most of the odor seems to be coming from the exhaust end of the duct fan. I'm thinking I may have messed up by taping the ducting directly to the fan instead of placing a...

Turned on Duct Fan and Tent began to Reek! Help!

Actually, now when I sniff around the vent, there is a strong odor sitting inside...I guess I'll have to tear off the ducting and see whats going on...does it normally contain fiber glass wool? I got it from home depot so I just assumed it was the basic stuff

Turned on Duct Fan and Tent began to Reek! Help!

Ok, I just read the flexible ducting package and it has a warning on the side about it containing fiber glass wool...it says inhalation could cause cancer...could this be the cause of the noxiuous gas? It's still lingering in my room and I have a bad sense of smell:cry:

Turned on Duct Fan and Tent began to Reek! Help!

I just set-up my tent this evening, and although I didn't have anything to hang my duct fan with, I wanted to get it running because I have 5 sprouts waiting for the MH light. Anyway, I hung the light with hooks and chains, taped insulated ducting to the hood and then taped it to my TD150...

    Best Place to Buy?

I didn't mean for my comment to be interpreted as negative feedback on HTG. I was only remarking about their current situation, with renovations underway and shipping delays. In fact, I recently ordered a grow light from them, and then 2 days later they allowed me to modify my order, but when...

    Wiring my TD-150

Another stumbling block arose when I began looking at extension cords. I noticed that most cords are listed as 16/3 or 16/2, and after consulting a Wire-gauge ampacity chart, I learned that that means they can handle 13 amps. Now there is also this cord which at 14/3 should be able to handle...

    Wiring my TD-150

I am trying to install the same fan, S&P TD-150, so I figured bumping this thread would be the best way to get an answer to my question. There is a very good thread by Mogie that demonstrates how to splice the wires and connect them to a stripped extension cord, but I'm still a bit confused...

    Best Place to Buy?

Now is probably not the best time to be ordering from HTGsupply...there is one guy on here who had to wait over two weeks before they finally shipped his stuff... http://mgssupply.com/product_info.php?products_id=57 I would consider getting this kit, and if you want to get it cheaper, look...

Question about Changes in Ducting Width

See I was thinking the opposite. To avoid putting pressure on the exhaust line, wouldn't a smaller fan pulling from the bigger duct and then blowing straight out be better?...but what do I know, I'm still trying to figure out if I should blow air across the light or suck air out of it... It...

Question about Changes in Ducting Width

So would it be better to have a 4" fan pulling out of the bigger duct, or a 8" fan pushing into the smaller duct?

Question about Changes in Ducting Width

Hey guys, I'm looking to hear from anyone who has experience with downsizing their exhaust lines...for example, if your hood is 8" wide but your vent is only 4" wide, couldn't the narrowing channel possibly create a jam and slow the flow of the air? If so, what solutions have you found?

    Beginner's Apt. Grow Room

First off, understand that I'm learning as I go along and while my knowledge is very limited at the moment, I hope to be well prepared in a couple of weeks. The space: Roughly 7 feet long by 6 feet wide and 8 feet high. It is a walk-in closet that is attached to my bedroom's bathroom. What I...
