With any fluorescent light you need to get it as close to the plant as possible. 2-4 inches would suffice. Just monitor the plant for growth so it doesn't touch the bulb & burn.

Not sure what you are referring to, are you talking about vermiculite or pearlite? I probably didn't use as much as I should have. I don't think that loss of weight over the 1st 2 days is particularly abnormal is it?

I don't think anything is technically "wrong" with the plant, but I'm pretty sure it's a male. Looks like the start of a male flower.

How did you plan on germinating your seeds? I see some people on this forum say bad things about the paper towel method but it has worked flawlessly for me for quite a long time. The key is to use a couple drops of superthrive in the water you wet the paper towel with. Put it somewhere dark...

I second this suggestion. It looks to me like the growth is too tightly packed together & the popcorn won't have as much of a chance to fill out. Very nice looking plants tho, + rep!
