I would invest in a EC/TDS/PPM pen and PH pen and PH drops first. That way you can get the proper food strenght and ph from the start and just use their charts as a general guide line. PH drop or paper should be no more than $5-10 and EC or PPM pens can be had on Amazon cheap or HM has a chaep...
