DIY LED light strips. Which is best?

So here's my 2 cents worth on best performance vs price. https://www.cutter.com.au/product/ssk-1560-35cr/ They are 3500K and 80CRI (a proven performer). At 30 watts and 700 ma you get 191 lumens/watt for about 2.8 umols/J. Or about 84PPF for $9.65 USDs. I know what you're thinking, "Have you...

    Cutter Cree Strip Tests

And imagine how good Cutter's web page would look on their Optisolis strip offering if it had one of your 1 page summaries from your Viso test equipment! In sales you are always looking for and edge, something to make you stand out and look better than the competition. That would do it. No...

    The LED "Arms race".....

So if I was an Aussie going in the drive-thru, I'd say, "I'll take a roo-burger with cheese, a biggie fry and a Coke."

    Using and Testing Vesta Strips

Thanks. I have found with today's "warm" cobs and strips that 25-30 watts per sq./ft. is quite productive, but I am a hobby/medical grower and have not used CO2 and went for 1000 PPFD either. When everything settles out and the numbers are in, I would like to know the details on your...

How many watts of 2700K per sq. ft. did you use?

    Using and Testing Vesta Strips

Good questions. When I was growing the CBD Divine, I had separate 185 watt drivers for each color. I ran about 2 to 1 5000K to 2700K during veg and kept the same ratio and reversed the colors during flower. The bars are 8" apart, so I kept them about 4" from the canopy. That was a very even...

    Using and Testing Vesta Strips

The current mission for my Vesta fixture is hanging over 2 tomato plants. At about 175 watts they grow some killer "Early Girl" tomatoes! If you can grow tomatoes, you can grow anything...including our favorite herb.

TEKNIK got right on the tests, and I received these files from him this morning.

    Using and Testing Vesta Strips

Here is a pic of the Vesta's first run. I ran both colors equally for about 700ish umols/sec. at the canopy. I flowered a little early, so the canopy does not totally fill the screen (actually a car-top bungee cargo net). The strain is CBD Divine from CBD Crew and Mr. Nice which is supposed...

I like the 1 page summary you posted on your thread. Not sure what other builders would like to see, but I am a small grower in tents or growcabinets.

    Using and Testing Vesta Strips

You are right. I forgot about that. I went back to an old thread: Cheap and Cheerful DIY using Citizen cobs For 2 year old Citizen COBs at 2700K and 90CRI the LER was 276 and the QER was 5.04. So if you divide the QER by the LER you get .018 (a conversion factor). Then multiply the lumens/watt...

    Using and Testing Vesta Strips

I know. At 129/135 lumens per watt, they are nothing to get excited about. But Bridgelux usually under-reports their performance specs. And I think they will look better when all the photons are counted! Time will tell.

    Using and Testing Vesta Strips

You are right. Aluminum is better. I found them at my local lumber yard and had to give them a try. The steel studs surprised me by how thin and light they are (cheap too). There are so many ways to measure the temperature of cobs/strips. Most involve a therm-couple (which I don't have), so...

    Using and Testing Vesta Strips

$20 for the frame. I did have the pop rivet tool. $67.50 for the 6 Vesta strips $82.00 for a hlg-320h-c1000b (from Arrow) $169.50 total To keep it fair I did have the terminal board, wiring, ty-raps and small white PVC tubing laying around.

So this is my first go at a thread. I hang out and read the threads mostly, with occasional comments. I am a small hobbyist grower. I grow vegetables, herbs and our favorite herb. Electronics and DIYing have always floated my boat. One niche that I like in our very large LED DIY...
