should take 7-14 days before the roots fill the pot, you will know because you will need to water every 2 days, then there should be enough food for a week more did you soak the root mass and pot them up ? or did you pot them up and give them a good soak ?

The best way to start off is to take cutting 3-4" long and put them in the root it cubes so the propagator lid fits over the clones use low watt lighting like, t5's, cfl etc
